Job Description

Position Summary
The Communications Specialist is a member of the MENA regional support team and will support all country and regional programming in regard to communications outputs. The Communications Specialist will help the team to increase the visibility of Search for Common Ground and peacebuilding among the general public, support MENA country offices in producing high quality external communications and oversee strategic branding in coordination with Communications HQ in Washington D.C and Brussels. The Communications Specialist will work directly with Directors of Programmes, Program Managers and Regional Program Officers. He / She will support the collection of field stories, proofreading and editing of communication products, presentations on project results, lead media campaigns, and develop other regionally focused communication tasks. This position will be based in the Regional Office in Amman, Jordan. Key Responsibilities
  • Roles and responsibilities include:
Overall
  • Under the leadership of the Regional Director and in collaboration with our Global Coms Unit, lead the organization’s communications efforts in the MENA region
  • Liaise with and supervise communications focal points across the region and foster a regional communication strategy and deliverables for the Levant region and MENA.
  • In close collaboration with GAP / EAP, identify the need for and contribute to joint advocacy efforts on issues which pertain to the MENA humanitarian and peacebuilding context.
  • Communications (40%)
  • Build the expertise, skills and capacity of communications focal points within country teams to develop communications materials and on communications best practices and methodologies.
  • Provide effective communication and representation, expanded partnerships, heightened visibility for Search’s work at the regional and country levels.
  • Coordinate talking points and speakers’ notes for public engagement; represent Search in media interviews, if needed.
  • Travel within the MENA region to provide in-country support when needed.
  • Assist in the development of regional and global journalist and media contacts lists, draft mass press releases and media advisories, and follow up with press contacts.
  • Support the visibility of our local entities in Tunisia and Morocco and train their communications focal points’ capacities in developing quality communication materials.

Copy and Written Communications (40%)
  • Lead communication product drafting, proofreading, and editingfor high quality, timely and targeted communications materials (success stories, capacity statements, newsletters, media campaign, blog posts, web updates) to best showcase the organization’s results.
  • Oversee the production and management of communications protocols and create / maintain a MENA regional information management system that enables the tracking and accessible storage of all our communication products and photos / videos from Search’s regional country programs.
  • Assist in the development of regional and global journalist and media contacts lists, draft mass press releases and media advisories, and follow up with press contacts.
  • Track media coverage of Search for Common Ground and peacebuilding in the region and coordinate with country management staff to highlight and source media interest.

Administration and Other (20%)
  • Keep track of and manage budget lines on communications across MENA programmes.
  • Help recruit consultants and other in-country communication support staff, including supporting procurement processes and following up on deliverables.
  • Manage intern communications staff as required.
  • Update and monitor social media platforms for the region, coordinating with country teams and Communications HQ on social media campaigns.
  • Monitor and report on social media, email, press, and other analytics.
  • Provide scheduling support for team meetings, events, and travel itineraries and processes related to communications events and campaigns.

Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelors degree in communications, marketing, PR or related field preferred;
Experience
  • At least 9 years of progressively responsible work experience with INGOs or NGOs and demonstrated track record in communications, preferably in the MENA region, OR
  • 2 year professional experience with a Master’s Degree in communications, marketing, press office or related field.
  • Shown track record of engaging with diverse teams across a large portfolio (dozen or more projects at the same time)
  • Experience working with communications company or in communications unit of a larger organization
  • Experience in measure reach and resonance of communications outp
